G'Old Korea Vinyl Mixtape 1

If you dig something a bit different, be sure to grab these original vinyl rips of 70s and 80s Korean funk, soul, jazz, new wave and other assorted odds and ends. These were recorded at a time when South Korea was still under dictatorship, yet was a time of great and rapid change for the Korea people socially, economically and politically. Still reeling from occupation, war and division, the 60s, 70s and 80s saw Korea modernise drastically and open up internatioanlly as it set about an economic miracle. This had a massive cultural and social that can be evidenced through these tracks. There's a strong western influence in all of the tracks, but something undoubtedly, unmistakably "Korean" about them all...

Some of my personal favourites:

Gunnam Nabi - Her (1974) - straight funk

Seoul Family - So Now (Ee Je Nun) - 80s Korean Italo-disco... Kotalo-disco?

REF - Breaking Up - 90s Korean Eurodance!  Amazing

Kim Chuja - Light My Fire (1974) - Cheeky doors cover, all in Korean!
